Learning From The Best In Design At Brno Bold

Exploring new tools, techniques, and perspectives—the Brno Bold conference is a design-focused event that emphasizes inspiration, creativity, and the exchange of knowledge in graphic design, typography, and visual communication. Andrej, one of Rare Crew’s talented designers, had the opportunity to attend this November and learn from Europe’s best—and boldest—in graphic design.

At the conference, he experienced presentations and discussions led by experts such as:

Bjorn Kusoffsky – An internationally acclaimed Swedish designer and co-founder of the agency Stockholm Design Lab, known for his minimalist and strategic approach to brand creation. He has worked with brands such as Polestar, Netflix, and IKEA, bringing a distinctive flair to each.

Ryk Oostenbroek – A Dutch visual artist and designer renowned for his dynamic and colorful digital illustrations. His graphic abstracts are celebrated worldwide and exhibited in galleries as art pieces. His conference talk detailed his journey from a young boy who dabbled in Photoshop and cannabis to a professional art career.

Rudo Letko – A Slovak designer focusing on branding and visual communication, known for his precise approach and emphasis on detail. He highlighted that typography is a voice that can speak directly to the customer and discussed the proper use of typeface cuts.

Martin Jenča – Founder of the Slovak design agency Milk and editor of the design magazine Backstage Talks. His session involved interesting discussions about how not to be an "Overwhelmed" Designer. Sometimes, it's not worth obsessing over details that the client will never notice; instead, invest time in understanding the context and client needs. A good designer always creates graphics that stem from content and he urged attendees to experiment beyond strict graphic rules and to avoid collaboration with designers who do not first read the content.

Andrej: “The conference left me with highly inspirational thoughts. Constantly asking questions to clients emphasizes the importance of deeply understanding their needs and context—this is the foundation of good design. Additionally, it also touched on the self-confidence of Slovak and Czech designers, which is often undermined by our own mentality. This event served not just as a gathering of designers, but as a pivotal platform for pushing the boundaries of traditional design and fostering innovation in the field.”
